Born into the historic Money-Coutts family — founders of the British private bank Coutts & Co. that still serves the royal family — DMC seemed destined for a life of tradition, legacy, and private wealth management. Yet from a young age, he felt drawn to a much older profession (some call it 'the second oldest profession') ... magic.

That spark was ignited at just eight years old, when his father, Lord Crispin Latymer, led him into a small, hidden magic shop beneath the vaults of Coutts & Co’s London headquarters. The shop was Davenports — the UK’s oldest magic store, first founded in 1898 and still run by the founder’s granddaughter — and in that underground lair of secrets, DMC's love affair with magic began. His father bought him a deck of playing cards and ‘The Royal Road to Card Magic’—an iconic book for card magic beginners—and the magical adventure was afoot.

📚 The Eton Years and the Path Less Travelled

Educated at Eton College, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious schools, DMC’s fascination with magic soon became an obsession. Whilst juggling his studies, DMC studied card manipulation, spoon bending, psychological illusion, and the forgotten legends of magic’s historic chapters.

This wasn’t hobbyist tinkering. It was deep, scholarly immersion. And it became clear that DMC wasn’t interested in mere performance — he was devoting his life to the mastery of an ancient artform.

🪷 Escaping Convention: From Fleet Street to the Streets of India

Following graduation, DMC briefly flirted with the traditional world of wealth management — taking internships at Goldman Sachs in London and Merrill Lynch in Madrid. But the path didn’t feel right, and it only became clearer that magic could be the only destiny. Glistening corporate offices couldn’t hold a candle to the powerful lure of magic, mystery and wonder.

Leaving the board rooms behind, DMC travelled to India, Asia and the Americas where he immersed himself in the raw, grassroots magic of the streets and sought out all the local magicians and magical performers that he could. Suddenly, this was an education like no other.

👑 Magic for the World’s Elite — and the World at Large

Upon returning to the United Kingdom, DMC launched his professional career and quickly rose to prominence on the private London scene. With a residency at the iconic Annabel’s on Berkley Square, his audiences soon included royal families, sultans, sheikhs and heads of state.

But DMC wanted to drive his magic beyond private performances. In 2011, he began travelling once again and producing simple, homemade YouTube films that revealed the art’s deeper emotional power around the world. These soon lead to a commission from National Geographic International for Card Shark (2013), DMC’s first television special and a global smash hit for the network.

That was followed in 2015 by the $4 million series Beyond Magic with DMC, and in 2018, Netflix commissioned DMC to create Death by Magic — an eight-part, $10 million production that became one of the largest and most ambitious magic series ever created.

🕌 A Landmark Show in the Gulf

In 2023, DMC made history once again with a residency at the stunning Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi. His one-man theatre show, titled IMPOSSIBLE, was the first magic residency in the history of the Gulf region and blended card magic, mentalism, magic history and local culture into a stunning 75-minute experience for just 50 guests at a time. The show was enjoyed by royal families, world leaders and global stars such as Chris Hemsworth, Alicia Keys, the Manchester City football team and many others.

More than just entertainment, IMPOSSIBLE was a statement — that the Middle East could become a new global hub for world-class magic. And DMC’s hope was clear: to inspire a generation of young illusionists right across the Gulf region who might one day amaze and astonish the world themselves.

But Magination is far from just a learning website, it’s a cinematic, structured education in the secrets of illusion, taught by DMC himself.
